      @abbie tgs the universe is very real – it can be seen through telescopes. And by definition the universe is everything there is. Whatever exists is in the universe. Now there are some very clever theoretical physicists who find “other” universes but these calculations are all done on pieces of paper and not observed. Yet.

      To add to Lidunka’s answer, I work on theoretical physics that sometimes involves alternate realities and other worlds, where the equations allow new universes to be formed every time a particle is measured or a decision made. Many-worlds quantum theory says when you flip a coin, the universe splits in two, with the coin landing heads in one universe and tails in the other.

      No one knows whether this is really true, or just something we have to pretend to make the maths work. Personally, I don’t think it’s true – I think there’s just one universe, and I don’t agree with many-worlds quantum theory, I prefer single-world theories. But there’s nothing out there that says many-worlds is definitely wrong and maybe one day we’ll do an experiment that proves other universes exist!
