I try not to let it be the only thing I do. Science can be kind of all-consuming, but if I do that for too long, I start to burn out and lose motivation, so I have to do something else more artsy to keep myself balanced. Right now I’m learning Japanese (super hard), I have a coloring book for adults, and I try not to do work in the evenings or on weekends, unless it’s an emergency.

As Jillian says, science has a tendency to take over your life if you let it, but part of being a professional scientist is about finding that balance between work and life. I work evenings and weekends if I have to, but most of the time I don’t have to and I instead spend all that time with friends or pursuing hobbies.

@Eleana it used to be, but then I had children and now I work on science like a normal person!
