My lab is basically a computer with code on it, and I think the scariest thing I had was when I found a major bug in my code, and I wasn’t sure how badly it affected other people’s work. It turned out that it was less bad than I had feared, but that was a moment of terror.

Similarly to Jillian, I don’t have a proper lab and most of my work is done with maths.

I did once think I’d found an error in a paper I’d just submitted for publication and I was terrified I’d ruined my career and no one would take me seriously any more. It turned out that the paper was correct, and I was just mistaken in thinking there was an error – I’ve never been so happy to be wrong about something!
