• Question: do you think one day people will live under the sea

      @shannon the salmon That depends as to whether you mean permanently (because of some apocalyptic disaster) or just as a residence (they can come out every day). For residential homes, this is already in the planning for the super-rich. Architects and engineers have already designed viable homes under the sea, so yes this will happen. But if there was a catastrophe, could the human race live under the sea? The answer is possibly! While it would be very very very expensive, it would be cheaper than moving to another planet. But there would be problems – air supply, food, energy supply… There are plants that could provide the right air environment, and there are ways of growing food and biofuel. But to be honest, if a catastrophe gets that bad, I wouldn’t want to be around…..

      We’re not really very well equipped to live under the sea. Living underwater or partially underwater, in shallow areas, that’s feasible. But at the bottom of the deepest parts of the ocean, the pressure is huge, and it’s hard to build things to withstand that. If anything went wrong, everyone would be crushed to death and drown, which would be a pretty unpleasant way to go.
