      There could be! Some quantum theories suggest there might be a fifth fundamental force (in addition to gravity, electromagnetism, and the strong and weak nuclear forces). This fifth force could be what makes quantum mechanics work, and if we understand it then quantum mechanics might stop being quite so weird and start being even more useful to us!

      The current theory to explain the forces of nature is called the Standard Model which explains very well how three of the four forces of nature exist. The forth, gravity, is not explained in the Standard Model. Also, 95% of the universe cannot be “seen” – only the effects of it’s existence can be seen. This too cannot be explained by the Standard Model. So there’s are new theories, such as Supersymmetry and Higgs theory, which can account for Dark Matter but require a fifth force of nature. This is all theoretical so far, but it’s only a matter of time…….
