      They were broken using the worlds first modern computers, pioneered by Alan Turing. After the Polish cipher bureau passed on some key information about the enigma machine to the allies, Alan Turing designed and constructed a computer called the ‘bombe’ that was able to mass crack the enigma encoded messages!
