• Question: How do pilots use your protection system whilst flying the aeroplane?

      The aim is actually for the pilots to not have to do anything – it’s automatic. If the aircrew are in a situation where the lasers might have to be used, they’re probably going to have their mind focused on other things, like flying the plane out of danger!

      But the system does give them a warning that they can hear and react to. So basically, say you’re flying a helicopter and the system tells you there’s a missile coming in from the East. It fires the laser but while it’s doing that, you have to turn off to the West to get as far away from it as possible. That’s the role of the pilot.
