Not really! We can always continue to grow more food, and the total amount of water on Earth never changes.

What might cause a problem one day is if the population grows so large that we can’t grow enough food for everyone. Then we’ll need to find more efficient ways of growing crops, or even (my favourite plan) start colonising other planets and living there instead!

@shannon the salmon As Steven says, we will never run out of water. The total amount stays the same. Water from oceans, rives, lakes, etc., evaporates into the atmosphere then rains down on us again!

Food is a different issue as the population grows and climate change makes it more difficult to grow food. Unfortunately what is likely is that the rich countries will be fine, and more people will suffer in the poverty-stricken countries.

It is possible, but it’s a long way in the future. For instance, if global warming starts to take off, the water on the surface will be held more and more in the atmosphere, and if it gets high enough in the atmosphere it can start to evaporate out into space. Our bigger problems now, though, are getting water to places which dont’ have enough, and getting plants suitable for each region to grow there.
