Well actually it would be really nice to get people to understand the importance of planetary interiors. No it’s not a cure for a disease, and it won’t stop global warming, but deep Earth research (and planetary research) is so important for our understanding of the evolution of our planet and the solar system. I used to want a degree, I got that and then I wanted a PhD – I got that and then I wanted a job – I got that, then I thought “when I get to professor I’ll be satisfied”. Well I got that too. And of course I want more. Maybe to find out something truly amazing about the Earth’s core. Or to help my students and postdoc researchers to do so. Actually, watching somebody you have taught become brilliant is truly amazing. More of that please.

Right now I’m really early in my career, so I hope that I can continue working in science and get a permanent position sometime! I also want to continue talking about science, both to other scientists and to the general public and to students – I think it’d be really cool to be a person known to be a really good communicator – I’m working on this every day!
