It’s a small planet spotted earlier this year orbiting the star Kepler 438, which is approximately 470 light years away from Earth. It’s thought to be a rocky planet, roughly the same size as Earth, which is exciting – we’ve never found any planets exactly like Earth yet, but Kepler 438b is the most Earth-like planet we’ve found. It’s sun is much colder and redder than ours, and a year on 438b is only 37 days rather than the 365 days that an Earth year is.
And who knows – since it’s a rocky Earth-like planet and might just be able to support liquid water, Kepler 438b may even have alien life!
