Subconscious is our word for the bits of the brain that do their job without you having to think about them. The subconscious takes cares of things like breathing and blinking – until someone points them out to you, you don’t think much about them and they just happen automatically!

The subconscious is thought to have evolved long ago before when we were more like apes, before humans had evolved, so it takes care of all the basic survival needs. Our conscious mind, the bit of you that thinks, evolved later and it’s what makes humans (almost) unique out of all life we know of!
