Question: when a star fades what does this mean?

After a star has started to reach the end of its life, and the end of the fuel inside it, it will explode as a supernova, leaving behind the compressed core that becomes a white dwarf. This stage of the star is very much its last shining moment, where it will weakly shine on but gradually fade as there is no longer any fuel left to produce more energy and its temperature drops. Much larger stars ‘fade’ in a much more extreme way, become instead a black hole, which actually sucks in light!
